Trauma-Informed
Trauma-informed therapy approaches our sessions in a way that prioritizes your felt sense of safety. It means going at the pace that feels right for you. It means ensuring you feel respected and have agency in our sessions. It understands that many people have experienced some type of trauma (a one-off event, multiple events, or consistent patterns) in their lives which can impact their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and sensations in their bodies. These experiences can shape how people relate to themselves and to others. Trauma-informed therapy holds this understanding as the basis of it’s therapeutic work.
Person-Centered
Person-centered therapy approaches sessions with you as the expert in your life. It understands that you already have the inner resources, and the ability to grow and make changes for yourself. As the therapist, I am here to sit with you as a supportive presence as you deepen your understanding of yourself and the tools that fit for you.
Psychodynamic
Psychodynamic therapy helps you understand how your past experiences and relationships may be influencing your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours today. It aims to discover the, often unconscious, patterns in your life that are impacting you daily. When these patterns are imbedded in our systems, they can at times make us feel stuck or react strongly. Psychodynamic therapy helps to explore the deeper origins of these patterns so you can better understand yourself.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness-based therapy aims to bring your awareness to what is happening in your mind and body in the present moment – without judgment. Instead of viewing your difficult thoughts or emotions as “bad” or “wrong”, it helps you see them with openness, curiosity, and compassion. This can help to better understand their role and why they are here. Mindfulness therapy can give you tools to lean into what your body is experiencing in the here and now instead of automatically pushing away certain thoughts, feelings, or body sensations.
